There are infinite ways a business owner can use the 24 hours they get every day. They may spend it by pursuing an idea that a friend had success with. They may spend it on the phone with IT. They may spend it closing a million-dollar deal.
Which way is more productive? And what is necessary for a business owner to spend time on, and what can they delegate?
These are common questions. The answer seems complicated because many business owners want to get everything done but don’t have the time or expertise to solve every business problem.
Recently, Adi Klevit, CEO of Business Success Consulting Group, and Michelle Nedelec, Co-founder and Executive Coach at Awareness Strategies, discussed this common issue.
And they discussed the solution.
That is to:
Get Started by Defining Your End Goal
What does this mean?
As we said above, every person only gets 24 hours in a day and seven days a week. That’s a limiting factor, right?
So, what do they want to achieve in that time?
The way to get started is to define your end goal.
If your end goal is to achieve the goals you and your executive team have defined for the quarter, then you know you must delegate the call to IT or the research for the side project your friend told you about. You must be laser-focused on that end goal, right?
Defining your end goal also has the advantage of being easy to work back from.
For example, if your end goal is to have 1 million clients buy your product this quarter, then you know you need to minimally:
a. Have your marketing in place well in advance;
b. Have stellar and consistent manufacturing systems ready to go;
c. Hire a sales team that can sell approximately 17,670 units daily.
From there, you can break things down further. For example, you may want to do a big promotion over a particular holiday weekend, you need to set up a payment processing method, you likely need a way to get product reviews posted rapidly, and more.
By getting your goal in place, you can work back to create the necessary processes to attain that goal.
Many business owners have goal-setting processes. But, after that, they assume their actions will achieve the goal rather than fully working backward from the goal and determining every step necessary to achieve it.
Building a goal-setting and goal-achieving process will help you and your team attain your quarterly and yearly business goals.
