The new year is right around the corner! This is a wonderful time to revisit your leadership strategies and ensure you are using the right techniques to accomplish your 2022 business goals.
Five Leadership Strategies to use in the New Year
This new year it is vital to get your entire team on the same page. That is why we are providing five leadership strategies for you to use in 2022. These may be well-worn strategies that you are revisiting, or they may be entirely new to you. Either way, as you read, think about how you can use them in 2022 to lead your company to success.
Here they are:
1. Clearly Communicate Your Vision
You have a vision for your business in the new year. Now is the time to ensure that vision is written clearly and concisely so that you can share it with your leadership and your employees. Once you’ve communicated the vision, ensure your team understands it by eliciting feedback and finding out how they can contribute to the overall goals.
2. Delegate
Even if you feel you can do everything better than others, getting involved in the every day is not where your time is best spent. Instead, it’s better than you delegate, set up processes, train, and help your employees to do the best job they can. They may end up becoming more expert in a particular task than you.
3. Value Accountability
Assign specific deliverables to particular team members. Giving your staff measurable responsibilities provides immediate feedback as to whether they are doing their jobs or not. This benefits both them and you as you move forward into the new year.
There are many ways to provide opportunities for accountability. These include:
- Setting up processes and procedures
- Establishing the metrics of a particular task
- Creating goals to reach
Helping a team member to create accountability around their job allows them (and you) to see when they are doing well, determine when something is challenging, or discover tasks on which they need more training.
4. Make Documentation a Habit
Identifying and documenting workflows, processes, and procedures will help you see commonalities and create working systems. Often, systems are already informally in place. However, they need to be documented to become repeatable. Documentation also allows you and your team to see what needs to be honed and perfected in existing systems. This, in turn, empowers your team to improve systems and “own” them, increasing overall accountability.
5. Clearly Define Responsibilities
When we see a leader constantly getting “hands-on” and jumping into a project, we often see a leader who doesn’t have their own responsibilities clearly defined. Get the responsibilities required by each role fully defined so that your team can get on with the work ahead. There is no need to “jump in” if everyone, including leadership, fulfills their defined roles.
