The number one issue preventing business owners from effectively organizing is a lack of time. There are just not enough hours in the day to do it all!
The founder and CEO of Business Success Consulting Group recently did a Webinar where this issue was brought home to us once again in an anonymous attendee survey.
Finding time is a challenge that all business owners face – it’s not just you. This article will discuss organizational solutions that you can use daily to create a more effective company.
Five Time Management Solutions
No matter what project you want to begin, you need to find the time to accomplish it! That includes the time to plan, organize, hire and train new staff, and more. Time is always at a premium among business owners, which means that effective time management is vital.
Here are five tools you can use to manage time efficiently – and gain momentum on your essential projects:
1. Create a workable schedule
Whether you use a calendaring app or a physical calendar, block out time for organizing and stick to it. This may mean you set up a 45-minute organizational “meeting” with yourself daily, or it could be three-hours you block out every Thursday. No matter how you set up your schedule, block out time to start organizing.
2. Budget your time
Time is like money. If it is not controlled and budgeted, you’ll wonder where it all went. So, guard your time like you do your money. Budget time for meetings, organization, planning, and product development. Use the time wisely, and remember, you’re on a budget, so you need to ensure that time allotted to one activity actually gets used to accomplish that activity.
Budgeting time is difficult, and you may need help. After all, you don’t do all the accounting, taxes, and purchasing for your company – why should you do all of the time budgeting?
If you need help, hire an assistant or someone else who can guard your time and keep you on task. Your time is as important as your income – so be sure to use it wisely.
3. Delegate internally or externally
Many business owners fall into the “I can do it better myself” mindset. This is a great way to get overwhelmed and never to have time for anything. Instead of doing everything yourself, delegate tasks to employees and hire specialists to get the work done rapidly.
4. Find a starting point for your project
According to Newton’s first law, an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion. Starting a project can begin the momentum you need to get it into motion. So, find a starting place and get going.
For example, if you are organizing by setting up processes and procedures for every department, we recommend identifying which department gives you the most trouble and beginning there. By tackling the department giving you difficulty and creating organizational structures to help support it and remove any confusion, you can focus on the next most troublesome department, then the next and so on.
5. Get the appropriate tools
There are excellent organizational tools available to you to make things simpler. For example, here at Business Success Consulting Group, we utilize the programs offered by SweetProcess to help clients create a centrally-located organizational system.
