Marketing can be very hit or miss, with some strategies working well and others making no discernible difference or even having a negative effect. That is why it is vital to document your marketing strategies and only use those that work.
In a recent interview with Managing Partner of Immersive Strategies, Nia King-Rubie, Nia shared five marketing strategies that anyone can use – no matter the size of their business. Read on to discover these strategies, and listen to the entire interview to learn more.
Five Strategies That Will Transform Your Marketing
1. Talk to individuals
Segment audiences so customers feel you are talking directly to them, not a vast amorphous group.
As Nia said: “Nobody wants to be another number. Everybody wants to feel like you are talking to them, not that you are talking to a large group.”
Make it simple to talk to individuals and make people feel personally cared for by segmenting your audiences and communicating with smaller groups of people who share common attributes and needs.
2. Create a customer profile.
Many marketers recommend building a profile of your ideal customers so that you have a real person to whom you can address your messaging.
For example, let’s say you have a small business that sells sustainable packaging. You might create a customer profile for the small business owner who wants to stand out as eco-friendly. You may create another customer profile of a business owner who is passionate about helping the planet and trying to find new ways to implement sustainable business practices. Then, you might create the business profile for the supplies manager at a company researching the best packaging products that fit the company budget and mission.
You may need to build several profiles, and your messaging may differ for each person or may overlap. Either way, the idea is to talk to a person, show them you understand their needs, and help them find solutions.
3. Be authentic
“Authenticity” is so broadly used that it becomes almost meaningless if you don’t specify how to be authentic with your target customers. Fortunately, Nia does.
When creating messaging, realize that you are talking to individuals, not businesses or groups – even if the message will be distributed to specific demographics.
Consider what those demographics need and what problem they are trying to solve, and then authentically speak to those issues. You can share stories, provide pictures of real people, profile a user, write a case study, or simply ask a question. As long as you are being genuine and talking to a person, you have the opportunity to be authentic.
4. Pay attention to the details
Small details often get overlooked but make all the difference. For example, using “Dear Adi” in an email will get Adi Klevit’s attention more effectively than “Hi Customer.” Attention to the details will help you get more significant results over time.
5. Document what works
As you follow the strategies above, document what works and what does not. This allows you to continue to do what is getting a positive response and stop doing anything that isn’t helping your business grow. Documentation also makes the process repeatable so you can get a similar result each time.
